Planning the new Children's Memorial
Children's Memorial President and CEO, Patrick M. MagoonDear Friends,
In 1882, Julia Foster Porter founded Children's Memorial Hospital when Chicago did not have a single pediatrician. She did so because she recognized that the children of Chicago were in desperate need of specialized care. Since that time, Children's Memorial Hospital has focused all of its resources on the promise of health care for all of our children. One hundred and twenty-four years later, we are embarking on the journey to build a new Children's Memorial and our vision remains the same.
Our new site and facility are necessary elements that will support our greater purpose—to provide children in our community with access to the most advanced cures, treatments and technologies performed by the best minds in pediatric medicine and research in a family-centered environment.
Children's Memorial recognizes that family members and health professionals are partners in the care of hospitalized children. Our new, state-of-the-art facility will be designed with these partnerships in mind. It will accommodate the needs of our patients and their families and equip our patient care teams with the best technology available. The new design will be focused on providing patients and families with more comfortable accommodations and allow more space for advanced diagnostic and treatment equipment at the bedside.
With the building of the new Children's Memorial Hospital, we will witness a convergence of world-class research, clinicians and technology that will change the face of health care for this and future generations. I firmly believe there is no greater dream for our city, for our children, or for our future.
Regards,
Patrick M. Magoon
President and Chief Executive Officer
